Teaching Philosophy

Kuhl Music Studio firmly believes in the transformative power of music in students’ lives.

We aim to create a positive and creative space for students to explore, learn and grow musically.

We encourage you to be autonomous over their your instrument and trust your unique discovery path.

Music should be fun and engaging; a source of joy.

We believe in the whole student learning journey and strive to create a lessons experience that reflects that.

    The Whole Student Approach

Mrs. Kuhl is dedicated to developing the WHOLE student.

Music is a spiritual process that involves the whole body and mind. When we make music we not only train our instrument, we reveal and/or learn something new about ourselves, and that can be a little scary.

With the right teacher it can be a thrilling and transformative experience.

We are not just music teachers- we are cheerleaders, confidants, mentors, role models, friends.

Your lesson will always start with caring for your heart (and maybe a hot cup of tea) before we get to any notes because when we feel seen, there's more connection and better music-making!

    Making Music Is Fun Again

Experience a renewed sense of joy at your lessons!

Gone are the days of practice shaming, negativity, and boring rep that gets assigned "just because".

Lessons should be fun and a time filled with creativity. Not everyone's lessons follows the same blueprint because every student's journey is unique.

Enjoy a safe, fun and positive environment to learn music and explore their creativity and reach their highest potential.

Sometimes there are things you NEED to learn and sometimes there are things we WANT to learn.

You can, and should, be able to do both.

Mrs. Kuhl encourages her students to bring selections to their lessons that inspire them to keep lessons fun and engaging.

    Mutual Respect and Transparency

A student-teacher partnership built on trust and mutual respect is of upmost importance here.

One person simply cannot know everything and you absolutely won't find any claims like that here. You will, however, discover openness, honesty, and hear phrases like,

"How is this experience for you?"

"I'm not sure, let me do some research first"

or "I have a colleague who specializes in this, let's ask them!"

Here at Kuhl Music Studio, the whole student and their journey is front and center. We are here to make sure music makes a difference in your life and can't wait to get started.
